A Model of Community Mental Health Center Led by Health Center - Focused in Experience of the Process of Settlement -

Abstract

|
The mental health system has been changed from hospital-orientd to community-oriented, from treatment to case management and rehabilitation after the promulgation of mental health law in 1995. Community mental health service performs all the activities within the community. The structure and system are inevitably needed to perform community mental health service smoothly. Community mental health center is the best usable and favourable model for the supply of continuing and comprehensive community mental health service. Community mental health center performs the roles which are composed of the organization of community mental health service, mental health promotion, the prevention of mental illness, the management of the chronically ill, public relation & public education, and the education and the training of personnels. Most of the community mental health centers in Kyonggi Province are deligated by the psychiatric department of university hospital or private mental hospital. On the other hand, Hanam health center established the mental health center from the starting point and has been managing it directly. The psychiatrist who has his private clinic in same area participates weekly as a consultant with the community mental health center. And he has a role of the medication for
patients, group psychotherapy and consultation for community mental health service on the whole. This is the community
mental health model led by health center that is operated by the least participation of the psychiatrist, and the psychiatrist is able to integrate and manage the community mental health service in the center of day care. The purposes of this study are as follows；introducing the general characteristics and the general system & structure； examining several problems and phenomena exposed in the process of settlement of this model；and brooding the possibility for generalization as a model applicable effectively in community mental health service of small or middle city.
